"I

don't

get

it."

marsayas from a mythological greek tale

marsayas's flaying left him to be depicted as a face of suffering and agony.

why it's somewhat a self-portrait

throughout my primary and highschool education, i had always struggled with maths and sciences. below the painting i made based off the bust of marsyas, is a contemporary collage of a desk that holds a ruler, notebook, and a protractor. these are all tools i've associated with maths.

i chose marsyas to represent my emotions regarding my learning disabilites for quite a dramatic reason; that i associated math with torture.

the title of the piece, "i don't get it," is a phrase that i all too often found myself voicing in class when i was a little girl, as well as in high school.
